Do I have no protagonist, no center, no backbone?Stop right there.The Life Palace chamber — why is it empty?In Zi Wei Dou Shu, a Life Palace without a main star has an official name: a void palace. It's not bad news, and it's not rare. It also has a fully developed reading method — and what that method reveals may fit you better than having a main star would.Why void palaces existUnderstand the mechanism first, and half the panic disappears.In Zi Wei, the main stars are assigned to the twelve chambers by a fixed set of rules. Fourteen main stars across twelve chambers means some chambers hold one or two, and some may hold none.A void palace is simply the natural result of the allocation rules. Whatever star sits there is your "borrowed main star."If Tian Ji sits in the Travel Palace, this person's base note carries Tian Ji's flavor: quick mind, loves analyzing, good at strategy.If Qi Sha sits there, the base note carries Qi Sha's edge: daring, direct, first into the fight.Borrow from the palace across the chartBut here's a crucial distinction.A borrowed star is not the same as your own star— the most important section —A star in its own palace is built in. It's been with you since childhood and doesn't need activating. Someone with Zi Wei in the Life Palace showed small-leader tendencies as a kid, naturally standing in the middle.A borrowed star is an add-on. It needs a switch to turn on. They're a different person.Void-palace people aren't missing a base note. Flip it around, and this is exactly the void palace's strongest ability: malleability.People with a main star in the Life Palace have a hard base note and a clear direction — but they also get boxed in by their own personality. Making them do something against their nature is painful.Void-palace people are different.
